Assessment accommodation About the position: The Northern Projects Management Office (NPMO) at the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor) is looking for an Consultation/Information Officer. This exciting position will report to the Manager of Crown Consultation and support Senior Project Managers in the research, analysis and organization of data and information related to Crown consultation obligations. This position will also guide improvements to NPMO’s data/information management system that is central to tracking Crown consultation-related activities in the North. Through your duties you will learn about the Crown’s responsibilities with regards to fulfilling duty to consult obligations with Indigenous peoples, and have opportunities to learn about the private sector, co-management boards, and governments across all three territories. Work environment Established in August 2009, and recently having celebrated its 15th year, the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor) is the only federal department with an exclusive mandate for the North. CanNor's vision is to develop a strong, diversified, sustainable and dynamic economy for Northerners and Indigenous peoples, communities and businesses across Canada's three Territories. As the smallest of the Government of Canada’s five regional development agencies (less than 120 staff in total), CanNor provides a unique opportunity for individuals looking to be part of a small but mighty organization that leverages its nimbleness to tackle some serious, high-profile socio-economic and Crown consultation-related issues. The Northern Projects Management Office (NPMO) was established to bring a holistic approach to the federal coordination of environmental review and regulatory processes for major resource development and infrastructure projects in the North. NPMO has three main functions, which are: The coordination of federal participation in the northern environmental assessment and regulatory review processes; Supporting federal departments consultation with Indigenous peoples as part of environmental review processes, assisting the Government of Canada in fulfilling Crown consultation obligations; and, Convening, pathfinding and issues management to help ensure that environmental assessment and regulatory review processes are effective and timely. In short, this is definitely not just another boring old desk job! Intent of the process The intent of this process is to fill one indeterminate (permanent) position in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. However, should the successful candidate reside in Iqaluit, the duties of the position MAY be performed from Iqaluit. Degree equivalency EXPERIENCE AE1: Experience with consultation or engagements with Indigenous peoples, governments and/or organizations. AE2: Experience working on northern issues or files, such as oil and gas, pipelines, mining and economic development. AE3: Experience working with issue management, case management or client relationship management software. AE4: Experience building and maintaining partner and/or stakeholder networks and coordinating multidisciplinary teams. AE5: Experience working in the North, preferably Yukon, Northwest Territories or Nunavut. KNOWLEDGE AK1: Knowledge of the Government of Canada’s Aboriginal Consultation and Accommodation guidelines and policies. AK2: Knowledge of the concepts, practices and trends associated with the management of information. AK3: Knowledge of northern environmental assessment legislation and/or processes. AK4: Knowledge of project management concept. ABILITY AA1: Ability to communicate in an Indigenous language from Northern Canada.
