The organization owns and operates the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club, Canadian Tire Centre, and the Belleville Senators. It also operates Ottawa Black Bears lacrosse, manages multi-use Sensplex facilities across the National Capital Region, and works in partnership with the Senators Community Foundation.

Position Summary

We are seeking a talented and versatile individual to serve as a bilingual On-Air Host and Producer for the Ottawa Senators digital and social media channels. This is an ideal role for a sports media professional who can seamlessly balance engaging on-camera work and behind-the-scenes production in both Canada’s official languages. The ideal candidate will thrive as the on-air host for our digital and social channels, requiring extensive knowledge of the team, our building and fan base. Production duties include collaboration with various internal stakeholders to help tell the on and off-ice story of the Ottawa Senators on a day-to-day basis.

Reports to: Director, Digital and Social Media

Responsibilities

On-Air Host:

  • Serve as the face and voice of Ottawa Senators digital and social media production bringing energy, insight, and passion to every video
  • Develop and deliver compelling content that informs, entertains, and engages your audience
  • Collaborate with the digital and social media team on script development, graphics creation, and show planning to ensure a professional and engaging viewer experience
  • Ability to plan, record and edit stand-ups, interviews and content at both home and on the road.
  • Host pre-game, post-game, and intermission shows for all digital games and events, guiding viewers through analysis, interviews, and exciting game content.
  • Set the tone for the editorial coverage generating excitement and anticipation for upcoming games and discussing key takeaways from recent ones.
  • Lead engaging discussions with guests, studio analysts and color commentators, ensuring a smooth flow of conversation and insightful coverage.
  • Conduct interviews with players, coaches, and other newsmakers, drawing out interesting stories and keeping viewers informed.
  • Represent the team in promotional/sponsor video in manner that focuses on engagement, building excitement and connecting with fans.
  • Maintain a professional and engaging on-air presence, fostering a positive image for the team and the NHL.
  • Participate in promotional/sponsor activities and community events to build excitement for the team and connect with fans.

Producer:

  • Oversee the end-to-end production process for recorded and shows, including pre-production planning, live production execution, and post-production editing and distribution
  • Operate production software, make real-time editorial decisions, and manage graphics creation, fact-checking, and studio setup
  • Contribute to marketing and social media distribution efforts, leveraging CMS and social media tools to maximize reach and engagement
  • Deep current and historical knowledge of the Ottawa Senators and the overall NHL, with the ability to cover a wide range of topics and storylines
  • Prior on-air experience, with a strong camera presence and the ability to deliver bilingual content engagingly and confidently with and without a teleprompter
  • 1-2 years of experience producing a video articles, video broadcasts, podcast or vlog with proficiency in live production software and basic video editing (Adobe Premier, Final Cut, etc )
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills, with a knack for storytelling and
  • A self-starter attitude, strong work ethic, and the ability to work weekends and evenings, especially during hockey season and during key milestones.
  • Display an entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to work cross-departmentally in achieving the goals of the digital and social team.
  • Must be fluently bilingual in both official languages (English and French)

Key results

  • Deliver content that will contribute to maintaining the club’s leadership in the sports digital market
  • Improve the club’s digital KPIs such as engagement, reach and video views.
  • Increase the number of fans and engagement on the club’s social media platforms
