Job DescriptionA full-time permanent position is available for a structural engineer to join us. The successful applicant will be working alongside an industry-leading team of experts who provide highly specialized design and product solutions for the light-framed wood & steel construction industry. The position is based in our Calgary Alberta office.The design engineer will be actively involved in the design, analysis and detailing of structural building products such as roof/floor truss components, engineered wood products and cold-form steel building components for projects ranging from residential buildings to large, complex commercial and agricultural structures.Job Responsibilities & RequirementsDuties and Responsibilities Provide engineering support to customers using MiTek’s in-depth industry knowledge and proprietary design software Create/approve designs as part of our design certification and component detailing services Create/approve 3D models and framing layouts to ensure accuracy Detail structural connections (wood /steel) Design site-modification details and field reinforcement for damaged structural elements Provide front-line communication with our customers and end-users of our products/services Project-specific coordination with designers, engineers and stakeholders as required Write letters of professional opinion to customers Other duties such as technical research and product testing, as required Office environment with minimum (0-5%) travel Knowledge, Credentials and Experience Must be a registered professional Engineer in good standing (P.Eng designation) licensed to practice engineering in at least one Canadian province. Minimum five years of experience in the construction industry, the light-frame wood truss industry, steel design industry or the engineered wood product (EWP) industry Expert level knowledge of structural framing practices as they relate to wood construction Working knowledge of the National Building Code of Canada as well as regional provincial codes Expert-Level software learning abilities with advanced knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written. Bilingual fluency in English and French is a definite asset Working Knowledge of Cold-Form-Steel design codes and practices is a definite asset Must be able to interact with different types of stakeholders of varying technical knowledge Must be a self-starter with an ability to balance independent work with minimum supervision, while being a contributing member of a highly skilled technical team In addition to a competitive salary, our employees are offered a full range of benefits including life, health, and dental insurance as well as profit-sharing and annual bonus incentive plans.
