About the Quantum Algorithms Institute? QAI is a non-profit, economic development organization that has the mandate to advance the commercialization of quantum computing and create a world-leading quantum computing talent pool in British Columbia. The Institute has its head office at Innovation Plaza on Simon Fraser University’s Surrey Campus which serves as the primary work location for staff. The Institute’s vision and mission set out the path for building a strong, world-leading applied quantum computing cluster in BC in collaboration with key industry, academic and government partners. QAI’s mission is to drive economic development in British Columbia by fostering quantum literacy, preparing the workforce for quantum technology adoption, and supporting organizations across industries to become quantum ready. We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive quantum ecosystem that is a benefit to all. Position Summary? The Director, Professional Development is an inaugural role at QAI with the primary responsibility for workforce development through development and delivery of short-term training and micro-credentialled offerings. The Director will ‘own’ and lead the creation of new in-person and online adult courses, creating a portfolio of educational products to be delivered frequently to paying clientele, driving the growth of BC and Canada’s quantum aware, quantum literate and quantum skilled workforce. The position reports to the Chief Learning Officer. Direct reports into this role include the Professional Development Specialist, Instructional Designer and Educational Tech Specialist, and Various Contract Instructors.Responsibilities? The Director will: Have primary responsibility for course creation, completion and deliveryMaintain and strengthen processes and systems for development and delivery of revenue generating professional development (PD) offerings through both B2B and B2C strategiesImplement best practices for the entire life cycle of micro-credential development and delivery, including principles from adult learning, instructional design/learning experience, curriculum development (e.g. ADDIE), and universal design for learning Oversee the core PD team by guiding their work to seed a strong culture focused on qualityInform the extended QAI team, enhance literacy across the organization around training, and advocate for best practicesDevelop a pool of qualified subject matter experts for curriculum development  Develop a pool of part-time qualified instructors to teach various curriculum offerings Manage relationships with consultants contracted to advance the PD effortsMaintain key relationships with infrastructure vendors such as learning management systems, badging, computing, and simulation providersAdvance a community of practice for subject matter experts and instructors for various professional development offeringsTake responsibility for quality assurance systems and processes for professional developmentDevelop and monitor annual operational plans, including monitoring key performance indicators and financial performance periodically on dashboards Report out to various internal and external stakeholders regularly on plans and progress Support the development of new grant and contract funding proposals related to PD  Join and report periodically to the pan-Canadian Professional Development Advisory Committee Collaborate with other QAI team members to meet the Institute’s objectives as necessarySkills and Qualifications? Master’s degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field from education or STEM   Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in working with adult learners from the workforce and/or in continuing and professional studies  Proven ability to lead and manage cross-functional teams, including staff and contractors, with a strong emphasis on fostering collaboration and results orientation.  Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with and influence diverse stakeholders and convey complex concepts clearly and concisely.  Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, coupled with the capacity to drive initiatives and achieve organizational goals.   Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a collaborative and team-based approach to work, promoting a culture of inclusivity and diversity.  Familiarity with quantum computing concepts, research, and industry trends is a plus.   The Director’s duties will be reviewed and adapted as the needs of the Quantum Algorithms Institute change, as the QAI team grows and to provide the incumbent with broader experience and career development opportunities.  Application ProcessIf this position is aligned with your strengths and interests, we encourage you to apply by emailing your cover letter and resume to [email protected].
