This is what you will do: Director, Global Patient Recruitment and Engagement Lead plays a key role in the strategic direction of Alexion’s patient centric frameworks for patient input to clinical trial design, patient recruitment, and engagement initiatives across Alexion Rare Disease studies, partnering closely with Clinical Operations and Development teams. Sitting in Global Patient Insights & Solutions (GPIS), a department within Patient Experience (PEX), this individual is at the nexus of the organization and uniquely positioned to instigate change and build momentum around addressing the needs of people and the families of those living with rare disease. The Director, Global Patient Recruitment and Engagement Lead will develop, execute, and obe responsible fora framework to support planning and delivery of global patient finding and engagement strategies for Alexion Rare Disease studies that leverage patient voice, strategic partnerships, healthcare data, and technologies while also working across our enterprise processes within AstraZeneca. Furthermore, it is within scope for the individual to communicate both internally and externally on key insights collected, solutions identified and measured impact. While situated within the Global Medical Affairs team, given the impact of this role, the individual works with adjacent functions, such as R&D, Clinical Operations, Clinical Development, Corporate Affairs, Global Marketing and Market Access. This role reports to and is a trusted advisor to the Head, Global Patient Insights & Solutions (GPIS). You will be responsible for: Clinical Trial Awareness, Recruitment & Engagement Develop Clinical Trial Diversity (CTD) strategies across portfolio, ensuring alignment with enterprise Patient Community Inclusion and Diversity (PCID) strategy and leadership Apply effective and innovative Global, patient-centric clinical trial awareness, recruitment, and engagement solutions Coordinate the management of assigned recruitment vendors and leading governance interactions, as warranted Drive appropriate website design, content and improvement from a patient and site recruitment and engagement perspective Partner with key stakeholders (e.g. ClinOps TA Heads, Clinical Development Leads) to align on disease area strategy; improve synergies and address gaps Provide mentorship and recommendations to study teams to support strategic application of branding, patient and healthcare professional awareness, social and digital outreach, site, and patient engagement Accelerate improvements to AlexionClinicalTrials.com - an accessible, informative resource and engagement platform for patients living with rare disease, as well as other channels to promote clinical trials Collaborate with AZ team to leverage capabilities and relationships for enhanced digital solutions Clinical Trial Strategic Insights Establish and maintain a world class organization and framework to support patient insight into the design and delivery of Rare Disease studies Drive expansion of Patient, Caregiver and Site Friction CoEfficient insights into clinical trial designs as well as into patient materials and support services in collaboration with cross-functional internal teams Identify opportunities for external engagement with patient advocacy groups in partnership with the Alexion Patient Advocacy team to demonstrate Alexion leadership in patient centric clinical trial design Connect across Global Patient Insights & Solutions (GPIS) to amplify patient insights and advise strategic decision making Build a dashboard and repository for key performance metrics across initiatives and by TA/indication to demonstrate impact on corporate goals of patient perspectives into clinical trials You will need to have: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in a discipline related to clinical practice/health care, life sciences or drug development or extensive experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry 10+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry, with experience in the development and management of patient recruitment and/or engagement activities Proven knowledge of clinical development processes, including understanding of global clinical trial operational strategy, project management and delivery of global activities across multiple projects in highly sophisticated disease areas Proven track record of success in developing and leading global patient recruitment, retention or marketing initiatives and program implementation Ability to establish excellent internal and external relationships, including management of alliance partners and vendors on budget and timelines Excellent interpersonal skills across countries, cultures, and functions and outstanding written, verbal communication and presentation skills Demonstrated ability to lead, build, mentor and empower high performing teams to deliver quality results through influence in a matrix environment The highest levels of integrity, confidence, values, and ethical standards Ability to travel as required internationally and domestically. Demonstrates flexibility in schedule and willingness to travel up to 25% The duties are generally conducted in an office environment.
