Position Description:

The Professor, Building Renovation Technology is responsible for providing academic leadership and for developing an effective, learning-centered environment for students through the design and delivery of curriculum within the School of Apprenticeship and Skilled Trades at George Brown. The professor will teach courses to students in all years at the diploma and apprenticeship level, in the Building Renovation and Carpentry programs in addition to other diplomas and certificate level courses when required.

Education / Certification / Designation:

  • Certificate of Qualification in Carpentry is required.
Experience:
  • Five (5) full-time years of recent experience with sustainable building practices and a demonstrable understanding of building science practical applications.
  • Proficiency in some types of design/modelling software (AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, etc.).
  • Prior post-secondary teaching training and experience in adult instructions techniques, and curriculum design experience will be preferred and will be applied in a variety of teaching and learning settings.
Knowledge / Skills Set:
  • A thorough knowledge of current trends in Carpentry practice, with proven ability to teach the entry-level practitioner in the classroom and lab setting will be required. Academic leadership experience in a post-secondary program is an asset.
  • Must have experience with advanced learning technologies, including online delivery.
  • Involvement in innovation and professional development related to teaching, use of technology, and student success.
  • Ability to convey conceptual and practical aspects of subjects to students respecting their diverse backgrounds, experience and learning needs.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and life-long learning.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to uphold the College’s priorities on diversity and equity.
Candidates seeking full-time faculty positions with the College must demonstrate the ability to design, facilitate and assess learning in accordance with adult learning principles and Universal Design for Learning (UDL).

Interview process will consist of a mock teaching experience and, in some cases, a practical skills component.
