The Role:

Capital Line South project involves the extension of the existing Capital Line, in 4.5 km of new LRT infrastructure, connecting Century Park to Ellerslie Road, in the city of Edmonton. The project also involves the construction of a new operation maintenance storage facility (OMSF), located at the end of the line. Egis is involved as part of the Owner’s Engineer team supporting the City of Edmonton on the development of this project.

The System Interface Engineer will represent the interest of the owner/operator by providing all of the necessary expertise required for the definition, integration and validation of all rails sub-systems related to the City Works for the extension and the OMSF. The person will also manage the design-builder (DB) on all aspects pertaining to all rail sub-systems related to the extension and OMSF and ensure the compliance of the project with client’s objectives and requirements.

The ideal candidate will have the following background, skills and attributes:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering
  • Professional Engineer status with APEGA or possibility to obtain.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Interface or Integration activities within Railway projects.
  • Knowledge of railway systems such as fixed block signaling, and overhead catenary system is a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of railway systems, operating requirements, available equipment, and systems.
  • Proven capability in managing design for a rail system, especially in multi-disciplinary environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating and maintaining Interface Control Documents, Interface Matrix, Interface Specifications, and Interface Log/Register.
  • Background in managing requirements related to interfaces and safety.
  • Relevant experience in the design, specification and procurement of infrastructure, tram/metro design preferably.
  • Good coordination, communication, and solid soft skills.
  • Experience of managing a multi-disciplinary team with strong management skills.
  • Experience of supporting organization to build and grow successfully.

Key Responsibilities:

As Interface Engineer, you will:

  • Prepare the Interface Management Plan.
  • Implement the Interface Processes.
  • Establish the Interface matrix & sheets.
  • Coordinate and animate the weekly Interface Meetings & take actions accordingly.
  • Ensure change management process is applied if/when required for all sub-systems.
  • Ensure integration of all sub-systems in the OMSF is achieved: with civil engineering and with the existing line.


As part of the Owner’s Engineer team, you will:

  • Support the owner/operator teams to elicit project requirements, identify technical risks and define the project scope.
  • Support owner’s team for all system related issues or decisions.
  • Collaborate with the project’s different teams and stakeholders to successfully mitigate issues and achieve smooth execution.
  • Work with project management leaders to report project progress.


As part of the front-office, you will plan, coordinate, and undertake the following technical activities along with Egis’ sub-system experts:

  • Respond to information requests from DB on behalf of the owner.
  • Perform design reviews and monitor the DB to ensure adherence to standards, specifications, processes, and best practices.
  • Perform construction/installation audits of the DB to ensure progress in safely manner & in accordance with design specifications and contractual obligations.
  • Provide technical assurance, recommendations, and strategic advice to the owner.
  • Review and ensure the adequacy of Interface Management and Integration Management plans, Interface Control Documents, Interface Matrix, and Interface Log and Interface Specifications.
  • Oversee and review interfaces across different stages (Identification, Definition, Monitoring, and Validation) to ensure they're considered in detailed designs.
  • Help improve other related disciplines like Requirements Management Plan, Test & Commissioning Management Plan, System Quality Assurance Plan, Configuration Management Plan, System Assurance Plan with focus on interface and integration.
  • Participate actively in Interface Meetings.
  • Regularly review and report on interface status and related issues.
