Meat Assistant Department Head Work Location: 9255 Woodbine Ave, Markham, ON L6C 1Y9
Start Date: ASAP
Type of Position: Full time, Permanent
Positions Available: 1
Salary: $23 to $27 / hour (To be negotiated)
Employment Conditions: Early morning, Evening, Day, Shift, Weekend, Statutory holiday, Flexible hours

The Role: Reporting to the Meat Department Head, the Meat Assistant Department Head supports the Meat department head in the department’s daily operations, ensuring that the department functions smoothly and efficiently.
Minimum Requirements:
Completion of high school degree
2+ years of experience in supermarket/food production retail chain store operations
1+ year of supervisory experience in supermarket/food production retail chain store
Work Setting: Supermarket and Meat department
Ability to Supervise: 5-10 people, Staff in various areas of responsibility
Personal Suitability: Client focus, Efficient interpersonal skills, Flexibility, Organized, Reliability, Team player, Dependability, Initiative, Judgement
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Fast-paced environment, Work under pressure, Tight deadlines, Attention to detail, Walking, Standing for extended periods
Specific Skills:
Manage and supervise the department’s daily operation and staff performance
Provide coaching, on-the-job training, shadowing, guidance and supervision to department staff; promote teamwork and create an inclusive working environment
Manage day-to-day business operations of the meat department, including managing merchandise and promotion items, placing orders, preparing sales reports and analyzing market information
Assign duties to sales staff and other workers in the meat department
Assist to establish work schedules
Organize and manage inventory in both the display and walk-in coolers
Oversee product quality, freshness and ensure “First-In, First-Out” (FIFO) is strictly practiced within the department
Conduct quality control during the receipt of inventory
Ensure that meat display counters are clean and well-kept
Resolve problems that arise, such as customer complaints and supply shortages
Maximize customers’ satisfaction by providing excellent customer service
Sell merchandise on occasion
Lead by example by performing all hands-on duties required in the Meat Department
