The Opportunity

The Occupational Health and Safety (HSE) Advisor will provide support to ensure that all Vale Canada exploration programs operate within internal and external regulatory codes and policies.

The OHS Advisor will also lead incident investigations, analyze trends in the key performance indicators, report all OHS activities on a monthly basis and coordinate safety initiatives.

This individual will:

  • Oversee all HSEC programs for Vale's North American Exploration Department.
  • Ensure operational and procedural compliance with the Health and Safety Act and applicable Regulations and Codes.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to management on safety, health and environment issues
  • Lead/facilitate all high severity incident investigations
  • Monitor on an ongoing basis leading and lagging HSE indicators.
  • Design and run emergency response drills.
  • Develop safe work procedures based on needs identified through on-going risk assessments.
  • Lead risk assessment workshops for all projects at their inception.
  • Ensure risks are managed based on risk assessment outcomes, assessing the exposure, managing the risks and monitoring the effectiveness of controls.
  • Compile legal requirement registries for all exploration projects.
  • Identify, develop and implement training programs for Vale Exploration North America based on applicable regulations, corporate requirements, and job requirements
  • Complete contractor prequalification and screening, monitor contractors' health and safety programs.
  • Plan corporate safety initiatives.
  • Assist with HSE audits including the implementation of Action Plans to address non-compliance items.

About You

Education:

  • College diploma

Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience.
  • CRSP Certification (preferred)

Skills:

  • Experience in hard rock exploration
  • Knowledge of the OHS legislation
  • Excellent communication skills,
  • Analytical thinker
  • Leadership qualities
