The Communications and Legislative Services Department with the City of Chilliwack, a growing and vibrant community of 100,000 located 100 kilometres east of Vancouver, is seeking a talented professional to fill the position of Freedom of Information and Privacy Coordinator.

In this dynamic role you will oversee the daily operations of the City’s Privacy Management Program to ensure compliance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA), handle information requests such as interpreting and applying FOIPPA regulations, analyze complex data for release, recommend information disclosure or withholding, and draft all necessary documentation. You will also draft and review Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and policy and procedures related to Freedom of Information (FOI) requests; collaborate with other departments, external organizations, and the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC); and provide information, advice, and training to staff and the public on FOIPPA regulations.
When required, you will assume responsibility for creating the closed agenda for Council, attend and take minutes of Council, carry out confidential administrative duties, and assist with election duties. You should have considerable knowledge of the operation and functions of all municipal departments as related to the work performed.
We are looking for a driven individual who is knowledgeable in Local Government Administration, Records Management, and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy, has completed Grade 12, and has a minimum of two years’ progressive experience in the records and information management field. You should also be proficient in the interpretation and application of the provisions of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Regulations and Commissioner’s Orders, the Community Charter, the Local Government Act, and the Interpretation Act, and be familiar with the Local Government Management Association’s (LGMA) Records Management Manual. Proficiency in minute taking, preparing, maintaining, updating, and retrieving a variety of manuals, searching records and compiling information is required.
Compensation: $72,363.20 – $86,413.60 annually
