We are looking for a bright, enthusiastic and driven structural engineer with proven UK experience and is keen to develop their career. You will be working in an associate-led team with responsibility for your own projects, as well as managing intermediate and graduate engineers in the team. You will also be expected to manage project budgets and engage with clients and fellow consultants. Whilst there is a managerial aspect to the role, it is a technical role, so it is essential that you are technically strong in steel, RC, masonry and timber design.Candidates must reflect Perega’s values of being collaborative, forward thinking, passionate, approachable and enriching our community.Responsibilities of the roleLiaise effectively with clients, local authorities and other design team membersExecute and coordinate projects, providing high quality technical designUndertake the project management and financial control of small and medium sized projectsAdhere to existing working practices, methods and proceduresProduce technical design information including drawings, calculations, specifications and reportsReview and approve reports, designs, drawings, sketches and calculations in accordance with quality proceduresManage the preparation of feasibility studies and reportsUndertake structural surveys and produce reports giving findings, discussion, conclusions and recommendationsSupervise and monitor the use of computer-based systems to ensure these are used correctlySupervise and support junior members of the teamAssist in the preparation of bids and proposalsDeliver ‘best practice’Proactive in self-developmentPrepare design and progress reportsDeliver agreed business development targetsAssist the marketing departmentObtain and review quotes for investigation worksManage the appointments and work of sub-contractors carrying out investigation worksCoordinate work undertaken by external sub-contractorsAttend and input at design meetings and site meetings, and record actionsUndertake site inspections, record findings and advise on any required actionsKey SkillsHND/HNC in civil or structural engineeringVery good understanding in engineering principlesKnowledge of design software and its limitationsExperience in delegating and supervising junior team membersExperience in acting as mentor to junior team membersGood organisational/time management skillsProactive approach to workCommitment to continual improvement at a personal and company levelUnderstand complex construction proceduresConversant in designing to British Standards/EurocodesCompetent in designing structures in concrete, steelwork, timber and masonryAble to use computer design software packagesExperienced in new build and refurbishment projectsGood detailing knowledge including buildability aspectsGood understanding of CDM regulations and responsibilities of a designerAble to develop different design solutionsAble to identify and define engineering problemsAble to identify alternative engineering solutions and appraise these to identify the most appropriate to satisfy the client’s briefAble to identify and control technical riskExcellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skillsAble to produce accurate and clear sketches to communicate engineering solutionsExperienced in the production of specifications and technical reports and feasibility studiesAble to work effectively within and across teams and project groupsAble to develop and maintain collaborative relationshipsExperience in managing client relationshipsChartered engineer statusUniversity degree in civil or structural engineeringProfessionally qualified with ICE or IStructEWorking knowledge of SCIA and Tekla Building DesignerSalary will be a competitive package, commensurate with experience.Perega put people first.
