St. Paul’s Foundation is seeking a Controller to join its Finance Team. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller directs the day-to-day financial management functions and provides professional oversight to the Finance Department. This position is responsible for preparing timely and accurate financial information and analysis for the Foundation, the Board, and external agencies.In this role, you will:In coordination with CFO, establish financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards on biweekly, monthly, and annual basis.Ensure that financial statements are prepared in accordance with Canadian non-profit organization accounting standards.Coordinate external audit preparations.Direct cash handling, cash control procedures, and cash flow analysis.Oversee and support the performance and development of the Accounting Team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity.Ensure investments and investment returns are reconciled, in compliance with the Statement of Investment Policy, and rebalanced, as needed.Advise on issues relating to new developments in the CPA Canada Handbook, Accounting Standards Board (AcSB), and CRA regulations relating to registered charities and personal income tax issues regarding contributions for potential donors.Maintain financial policies, procedures and internal controls.Direct the annual budget and quarterly forecasts, including variance analysis.Ensure compliance with BC Gaming Commission and Enforcement Branch regarding the operating and reporting of raffles.Ensure the annual charity return for the Foundation is prepared and submitted on a timely basis with special emphasis on accurately calculating and determining the annual disbursements quota.Ensure proper recording of transactions in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, CRA regulations, and approved financial policies, including ensuring that funds are disbursed with proper authorization and in compliance with the terms and conditions of the fund.Manage special projects.You have:A current Canadian Professional Accounting Designation (CPA) and you are a member in good standing.A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a similar role, including managing staff.Working knowledge of non-profit accounting standards is preferred.Strong analytical and decision-making skills.Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage priorities and deliver on timelines.Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships and liaise with diverse stakeholder groups.Effective leadership skills with ability to develop teams and build team capabilities.Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.Superior interpersonal skills to engage, motivate and leverage stakeholders both internally and externally.Ability to manage the development and implementation of operational policies, procedures and guidelines.Strong attention to detail.Advanced skills in MS Office (Outlook, Word and Excel).Experience with PeopleSoft and Raisers Edge an asset.Available to work occasional weekend and evening hours.Ethical behavior: ensures own behaviour and that of others is consistent with the mission and values of St. Paul’s Foundation.Diversity, equity, and inclusion are essential to creating a great workplace.
