Subject Matter Expert (SME) Process Controls Engineer

The Subject Matter Expert (SME) Process Controls Engineer’s business unit will be the Rally Engineering Inc. (“Rally”) Calgary office but will be based on a client site (in Calgary) for a duration of one year (with the possibility of extension). This role will involve travel (10%).

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Supervise, implement, maintain, and continually optimize control strategies on Foxboro systems including advanced control and automated procedures.
  • Demonstrate programming capabilities on Foxboro DCS.
  • Lead the hazard review process for process control strategies.
  • Audit controller benefits.
  • Develop and maintain HMI’s.
  • Provide process control support for unit and capital projects.
  • Perform alarm management activities.
  • Work as part of the plant multidisciplinary team to monitor plant performance and initiate actions to improve.
  • Monitor and maintain the integrity of the control system database.
  • Lead or participate in incident investigations.


Qualifications - Education, Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering with extensive experience (15+) in process automation/process control engineering.
  • Registered or eligible to register as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) with APEGA.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results.
  • Proven organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated values related to environment, health and safety.
  • Ability to adapt and contribute within a dynamic and changing environment.
  • Experience with any of the following is of significant value: Pavilion advanced control software, Programming / scripting languages such as: VB script, Jscript, and Powershell.
  • Expertise with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Soft skills – such as communication, multi tasking, shifting priorities, meeting deadlines, leading, managing, coaching, organizing, customer services, teamwork, collaboration, etc.
