Group Financial Controls SpecialistLocation: Hybrid - York Mills or Kingston Empire life is looking to hire a Group Financial Controls Specialist to join our Group Solutions team!If you have an analytical mind, natural curiosity to learn more, creative problem solving and excellent communication skills, this could be for you. We encourage creative and innovative thinking and welcome candidates who are not afraid to challenge the status quo.What you’ll be working onHelps define, implement, test, maintain and support processes and appropriate controls for financial transactionsIdentifies potential risks and control deficiencies, and recommends appropriate actions to mitigate these risksAccurate and timely completion of account reconciliations for the Group Finance and Controls DivisionRegular in-depth review of complex reconciliations for all Group accounts and resolving financial discrepancies and errorsActs as a subject matter expert and technical liaison for Administrative Service Only (ASO) product and develops controls/processes for new or changing ASO arrangementsActively manages ASO month end balancing and reconciliations processesVerifies and corrects journal entries, ledger balances and other financial data, coordinating with other business units when necessaryCompiles data from various sources and supports the month-end close process, including accruals, adjustments and month-end analysis for various accounts.Monitor, review, analyze and reconcile GL accounts to ensure accuracy and proactively identify and report on variances.Supports the design and implementation of controls for new product lines.Collaborates with internal and external auditors and submits necessary data/documentsStays up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in financial controlsWork with other Finance team members to continuously improve and automate team processes and templatesWork on Ad-hoc tasks as requiredWhat we’re looking for you to haveBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related fieldProfessional designation (e.g CPA, CFA, ASA) or working towards a designation is an asset3-5 years experience in financial analysis, auditing, or financial controlsKnowledge of group benefit contracts and productsGeneral ledger and transactional accounting experience is an assetStrong working knowledge of spreadsheet and database softwareAbility to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlinesMicrosoft Suite - Excel and AccessIf you are applying for a position which is open to applicants across Canada, unless otherwise indicated in the position, language proficiency in English is required for communicating with customers, advisors, or employees across Canada.Beyond the salaryFor regular full-time positions, Empire Life offers a comprehensive total rewards package that includes:Competitive salaries with annual pay increasesAnnual bonus program, which recognizes both strong company performance and individual contributions, for non sales positionsCompetitive uncapped commission, for sales positionsA comprehensive employer-funded benefits package starting from day one of employment, that includes life insurance, disability, health and dental and a generous health accountFlexible work arrangements and an annual allotment of personal health days.Four weeks annual vacation from hire dateA defined contribution pension plan with generous employer matchingTop up programs for parental leave and compassionate leaveEmployer-sponsored wellness and recognition programsA cash employee referral programTo learn more about working at Empire Life, visit https://www.empire.ca/workatempire.Get to know usEmpire life is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
