Position Information Position Title: Cyber Security Analyst Position Summary The Cyber Security Analyst will be the primary operational cyber security staff member for RDP. The primary purpose of the role is to reduce the risk of a major cyber incident at RDP while significantly shortening the detection and containment time of cyber incidents that occur. To support this overall goal the incumbent will recommend policy and standard components, develop staff awareness of cyber security through the cyber security program, manage and monitor technical threat detection, analysis, and control systems, and act quickly to contain breaches when they occur. Position Responsibilities Cyber Security Management and Monitoring Constantly monitor the cyber threat landscape and identify how those threats apply to RDP. Accountable to monitor RDP’s applications, computer devices, and network infrastructure for significant threats and work with service owners to patch and mitigate risks. Identify key systems for log tracking and work with system owners to ensure logs are recorded for analysis. Configure and manage threat detection systems such as Defender for Endpoint and Sentinel to monitor and analyze logs to identify threats and indications of compromise. Cyber Security Program Management Manage the RDP Cyber Security Program elements including staff training, phish training, documentation of processes for various cyber events, supporting RDP staff members with cyber security-related questions or issues. Maintain the Cyber Security Incident Response Plan documentation and provide input on the ITS Disaster Recovery Plan. Security Incident Response When cyber security alerts and incidents occur, this position will work with ITS leadership, the ITS team, and affected staff members to quickly contain incidents and investigate the total impact of the incident. An ability to focus on small details to identify larger patterns is critical to determine when a small issue may indicate a much larger problem. Work with the Cyber Security Incident Response Plan as needed. Take detailed notes on incident information to support any needed privacy impact investigations. Policies and Standards Recommend updates to RDP ITS policies and ITS standards as required to meet federal and provincial legal requirements for security and privacy, cyber insurance requirements, and align with the NIST Cyber Security Framework requirements while meeting the organizations business and reputational needs. Required Qualifications Two (2) years of post-secondary training, completion of a community college certificate including trades apprenticeships or equivalent. 1-2 Years of experience. Preferred Qualifications Four (4) year undergraduate degree, or three (3) year undergraduate degree plus one full additional year of university in a related program representing four years of study or equivalent.
