About the Position:

Reporting to the VP, Construction, the Superintendent will collaborate closely with project managers to ensure seamless implementation of safety programs and oversee the project team's performance. Your role involves proactive problem-solving, schedule management, and fostering strong relationships with stakeholders.


Key Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Works with project manager to ensure implementation of Equiton’s safety program, including integrating Equiton’s safety program into all site plans and procedures and adhering to all safety and record keeping requirements.
  • Supervises, directs, coaches, trains, and mentors the project team, including direct and indirect reports.
  • Proactively identifies, manages, and resolves potential problems, work conflicts, and/or schedule challenges. Contributes to development and implementation of a recovery plan and works with the project team to anticipate and resolve issues.
  • Liaises with site contractors, union and labor relations, and site and office representatives.
  • Visualizes and conveys vision of an entire project, identifies and drives the project schedule’s critical path.
  • Communicates effectively and develops long-term relationships with stakeholders, clients, subcontractors, and trades.
  • Develops and implements a resource-loaded three-week lookahead schedule and able to coordinate multiple scopes of a construction project, including scheduling, monitoring, and coordinating own forces work and trade contractors.
  • Manages the project plan and schedule, and ensures compliance with budget and quality.
  • Understands project labour agreements and builds relationships with union and labour representatives.
  • Maintains project administration correspondence and complies with documentation requirements.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Understanding of and ability to run scheduling software.
  • Ability to complete material, labor, and equipment takeoffs
  • Understanding of collective agreement and jurisdiction assignment for multi-trade sites.
  • In depth knowledge of and application of safety and environmental principles/procedures/legislation and demonstrated experience implementing a strong safety culture
  • Ability to lead and run effective site meetings with the consultants, trades, own forces work, and internal employees
  • Experience in mitigating grievance and employee relations issues
  • Demonstrated conflict-resolution skills, problem-solving abilities, and professional judgment.
  • Knowledge of virtual construction software and tools
  • Understanding of project scope and ability to apply complex engineering principles and embed solutions in construction plans and schedules. Ability to complete value engineering and define scope and limitations or pursuits.

Education and Experience :

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction-related field, such as civil engineering or architecture
  • 15 years of progressive field supervision experience
  • Successfully supervised a construction workforce
