Position Summary
St. Paul’s Hospital Complex Pain Clinic: The SPH Pain Management Program was established in 1985. With a continued interest in treating chronic pain patients, the program developed over the years into a true multidisciplinary team consisting of the following services: Anesthesiology, Neurosurgery, Internal Medicine, Rehabilitation Medicine, Psychiatry, and Allied Health (Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Psychology). From the inception to present, the program at SPH has continued to grow and expand, making a name as a leader in innovative methods of treatment for those battling with chronic pain. The program now resides under the Department of Surgery, headed by Anesthesiology, and continues to be supported by a multidisciplinary team of clinicians. The role of the Physiatrist would be in the outpatient clinics for assessment and diagnostics, a multidisciplinary approach to care, as well as evidence-based non-interventional and interventional management strategies. There may be additional needs based upon opportunities such as research and education.
Acute Care Consultations: The extensive acute care Physiatry consultative services occur at SPH, Mount St. Joseph’s Hospital (MSJ), and other partnering institutions such as Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) amongst others. Responsibilities include the management of Physiatric-related diagnoses and impairments, as well as rehabilitation planning.
Holy Family Hospital Rehabilitation: PHC includes one of the largest specialized rehabilitation facilities in BC at HFH, with both inpatient and outpatient multidisciplinary services. The 65-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit focuses on the delivery of specialized multidisciplinary rehabilitation of the older adult with neurological (mostly stroke), orthopedic, and amputee/prosthetic needs. Physiatrists work in partnership with the admitting family physicians and the multidisciplinary team to support each patients’ journey throughout their inpatient admission.
Qualifications: The successful candidates will have an FRCPC in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and be certified or be eligible for licensure by the BC College of Physicians and Surgeons. Preference will be given to those candidates with an interest and experience in the rehabilitation of the older adults with complex medical needs and/or additional sub-specialty training in Pain Medicine.
