Position Details Competition Number: 20240875SS Position Title: SW 405-005 Social Work with Indigenous Peoples - Winter 2025 - Saskatoon Face-to-Face Faculty/Department: Faculty of Social Work Unit: Social Work - Sessionals Employee Group: URFA Job Family: N/A Category: Sessional Number of Vacancies: N/A Position Summary The Faculty of Social Work at the University of Regina invites applications for one Sessional Lecturer to teach the following in-person (Saskatoon) course during the Winter 2025 semester: SW 405 Social Work with Indigenous Peoples This course investigates theory and practices for social workers to support Indigenous individuals, families, and communities in a variety of settings. The course explores the history of oppression experienced by Indigenous peoples by government policies. Emphasis is placed on individual self-determination, cultural safety, Indigenous self-governance, and societal decolonization. The semester class period is from January 6, 2025, to April 11, 2025, with the final exam period running from April 14 to 26, 2025. Sessional Lecturers that are teaching in-person classes are expected to teach 13 synchronous classes throughout the semester in person on campus. Expectations for Sessional Lecturers Preparing the course outline, designing relevant assignments, evaluating and grading student work, and submitting student grades by the required deadline. Teaching course content that follows the course description, established learning objectives, and university academic guidelines. Delivering 13 lectures throughout the semester. Encouraging and maintaining a safe and collaborative classroom environment. Providing regular support to students on course work during office hours, and as required by students. Consulting with the Associate Dean (Undergraduate Programs) on academic or student-related matters as needed. Other duties as assigned. All faculty members of the Faculty of Social Work are expected to support our mission: “The Faculty of Social Work contributes to critical social work through innovative teaching, research, policy development, and community engagement, thereby preparing students to work towards an equitable, diverse, and inclusive society in Saskatchewan and beyond.” Position Requirements The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications: Master of Social Work (MSW) Demonstrated related experience appropriate to the course content description as listed above; Superior communications skills (both written and verbal); Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; Recent teaching experience in a post-secondary environment is considered an asset. Work Hours This course is offered on Tuesday’s 11:30 a.m. – 2:15 p.m. The Sessional Lecturer is expected to teach on campus in-person in Saskatoon (synchronous) for each of the 13 lectures, be in the classroom 10-15 minutes before each class starts, as well as offer regular office hours for their students each week.
