Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) in partnership with Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine (DPLM) Cumming School of Medicine (CSM), University of Calgary (UofC), invites applications for a full-time Academic Renal Pathologist for a Contingent Term appointment at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level.

Job Summary & Responsibilities:

Pathologists must maintain the highest possible standards of practice including prompt delivery of services to match established performance indicators, provincial metrics, and turn-around times, must actively participate in such activities as quality assurance, quality control and quality improvement programs, and must actively participate in undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate medical teaching. The position requires excellent skills in renal pathology and ongoing committment to research and education.

This is a joint UofC / APL academic position; the successful candidate will hold an academic staff appointment at the Professor level with 50% protected time for academics and 50% allocated time for clinical services. The APL medical staff position is a contractor position with APL. Academic appointment will be offered as a UofC employee. The successful candidate may be offered membership and support from the Snyder Institute, Section of Nephrology, and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

Qualifications: 

Qualifications include a MD, eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta, and certification in Anatomic Pathology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and/or Anatomic/Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology. Candidates must have subspecialty Fellowship training and/or Certification in Renal Pathology.An advanced graduate degree with basic/translational research training and demonstrated commitment to research in renal pathology areas related to pathogenesis and disease mechanisms or other areas relevant to basic translational research pathology is essential. The ability to establish an independent or significant collaborative research program as demonstrated by a portfolio of scholarly work is also required. Applicants must provide evidence of a well-established research program, outstanding academic publication record as evidenced by continuous publication in high impact journals or leading in the field, demonstrated ability to lead research teams, outstanding teaching and graduate supervision record, and evidence of academic service and/or leadership.

  • Compensation: An excellent remuneration package including relocation assistance is provided. Starting remuneration is commensurate with the level of fellowship training and experience. Remuneration range for a Pathologist in Alberta is $364,597.00 to $424,123.00.
