Dimensions

This position is responsible to provide direction, assign workloads, monitor progress and assess performance. 

Purpose

Responsible for the supervision of underground crews which may include development, longhole, construction and material movement services depending on the assigned business unit. This position will coordinate and ensure production targets are met as forecast, within budget and safety parameters. Actively promote a healthy and safe work environment and ensure that the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Government Acts and Regulations and company policies and procedures are adhered to. 

Safety & Sustainability Expectations

  • Ensure the underground mine operates according to company, federal, provincial and municipal standards.
  • Promote, communicate and follow Fatality Risk Management policies at all time. Inspect work areas, identify risks and hazards and ensure corrective measures are taken.
  • Ensure accurate reporting and investigation of accidents and incidents.
  • Complete mandatory weekly and monthly job tasks.
  • Practice and promote the Internal Responsibility System.
  • Ensure that underground employees are receiving training / accreditation on the jobs they are expected to perform or equipment they are expected to operate.
  • Promote and adhere to Porcupine’s Environmental and Sustainability policies. 
  • Ensure all Federal and Provincial legislative requirements are met.
     

Safety & Sustainability 

  • Directly responsible for the health and safety of direct reports.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, identify risks and hazards and take corrective measures.
  • Practice and promote the 5-Point Safety System on a daily basis.
  • Conduct Safety Meeting monthly and weekly   Spot Job Observations
  • Practice and promote the Safety Programs in conjunction with the IRS.
  • Ensure the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Government Acts and Regulations and Company policies and procedures are adhered to.

Production

  • Frontline supervision of hourly crews underground.
  • Coordinate and ensure production targets are met as forecast, within budget and safety parameters.
  • Ensure the crews have the training, tools, and equipment in place to perform the work safely and efficiently.
  • Assist in forecasting the production and development targets for the workplaces.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures as required by the underground.
  • Work with engineering and assist in the planning and design of workplaces.
  • Assist in planning and implementation of support projects.
  • Complete all time entry and vacation requests and scheduling.

Strategic Planning 

  • Ensure crews receive training / accreditation in the jobs they are expected to perform or equipment they are expected to operate.
  • Provide coaching, hold to account and evaluate hourly employees.
  • Conduct job observations and provide employees with feedback on their performance.
  • Provide clear expectations of the production levels expected.

Training & Experience

  • Minimum secondary school diploma, post secondary education in mining preferred, along with five (5) years’ of underground mining experience.
  • Accreditation in the Underground Supervisory Common Core.
  • Good understanding and working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and regulations for Mines & Mining Plants, Underground mine rescue techniques, WHIMS and Loss Control Principles.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with training programs, IRS, and Corporation’s Safety Program.
  • Proven track record in personal safety and housekeeping practices
  • Work well in a team atmosphere.
  • Computer skills to complete time entry, centric, work orders, materials management.
  • Familiarity with the JH&SC and Safety and Loss Control.

Working Conditions

This is a site based position located in Timmins, ON

The schedule is 5x5x4
